Statement

I work in Linoleum Cut printmaking.

Some of my first prints were of trees. I like going bike riding around my neighborhood, and I kept looking at what I call “city trees”. These are the trees that live between the street and someone’s lawn. They are usually large and old, their planting day long forgotten. They’d often been casually lopped and topped, they grew and lived untended, hardly even noticed . They stand, beautiful in their endurance; gifting shade, providing homes and perches for many passing birds and squirrels. I made a series of linoleum prints to honor these city trees. Many of those trees are gone now, most of them victims of construction, growth of another sort.
I continue to look at trees. They are so creative in the way they grow. They often seem to be having conversations - gossiping, sharing news; sometimes just quietly enjoying each others’ company. I try and portray some of their secrets in my work.
